Piecing every part of your business together and doing this on your own is probably not the best decision. It's almost a rolling of the dice and just hoping things turn out well for you. How do I know? Because this is what I did in the early days of my practice. It can be financially draining and in some cases, break you mentally. It doesn't have to be this way. Enjoy!

Danny: Hey, I've got a question for you. Do you know if you're tracking the right data, the right metrics to the right key performance indicators in your practice? This is something that's huge for us and really helps us make solid decisions within our business, but the prior software that we're using to run our practice made it really challenging.

To actually get that data out and use it in reports. Since we've switched to PPG everywhere, this has actually become way, way easier for us to be able to have the right data. We have a dashboard of all the things that we actually want to see, the metrics that we want to pull, and it makes our life a lot easier to pull the information that we need to make the right decisions within our business.

So if you're running blind and you're not tracking the right things, or you're having a. Hard time actually pulling everything together. I highly recommend you check out our friends at PT Everywhere and see what they've got going on with their software platform. It's what we use for our practice. It's been a game changer for us.

You can check 'em [email protected]. I think you really like it. So here's the question. How do physical therapists like us who don't wanna see 30 patients a day, who don't want to work home health and have real student loans create a career and life for ourselves that we've always dreamed about?

This is the question, and this podcast is the answer. My name's Danny Mate, and welcome to the PT Entrepreneur Podcast.

What's going on guys? Doc Danny here with a PT Entrepreneur podcast, and today I got a quick lesson learned for you coming from me. And last week on Thursday I spoke about my my son's first tea instructor for golf and how his personality and backstory. Drove me to wanna do some golf lessons with him and get some coaching and today, this morning actually, I met him early in the morning.

I like it. He's I'm a morning guy. I hope you don't mind meeting early. So we met at seven. The sun wasn't even up yet, so that was interesting. Hitting balls with her. It's kinda hard to see. But I met with him and I did a I did my first lesson with him. I was there for hand.

Longer. I thought I was there for two hours. He's funny. I think he was like filling his time with me before he was going out to play with his buddy. So anyway, I I can't tell you how great it is to shortcut the learning process by getting somebody to just show me what to do. So I. My background with golf is not extensive by any means.

I have never had I've never had golf lessons per se. When I was in elementary school, the base that we were my dad was assigned to was they had free golf. Camps for kids over the summer. So for a period of, I guess we were there for two years. So for two years my parents would send us to this golf camp for as many weeks as they could get us into it because it was basically free daycare.

Myself, my brother, sister, like we all went to this because we, it was free and it was very close to where we lived, and my dad put us in there and we did not want to go, let me. Start by saying that where I grew up and the places that I grew up going playing golf was not cool. If someone found out you played golf, that was a good way to get punched in the face.

So it wasn't something we were looking forward to. I didn't grow up at a country club and I didn't really ever wanna play, and I played as little as I possibly could until we moved to Augusta, Georgia when I was in high school. And when I got to Augusta, it was like opposite world. It was a complete opposite.

Everyone there plays golf. Golf is like the greatest sport there because it's such a big draw with the Augusta National and the Masters. So all of a sudden this thing that would get you beat up all of a sudden was the cool thing to do. So I started playing golf again in high school with friends.

Not like in any way where it was, I was playing a lot, I just recreationally would play. And then I got a job when I was in college at a at a. Country club as a waiter, and one of the perks of that was I could go play golf for free during certain times, like the slow times during the day.

Luckily for me, I had a day where I didn't have any classes stacked up, so I had Tuesday, it was completely free, and I would work that. Usually lunch and evening. So that morning, I would go out, I'd play golf and I could play nine holes in a really short period of time. And I really started to enjoy it and get some reps in and then we fast forward, we have kids and I just couldn't justify spending five, six hours on the weekend with my buddies while Ashley is dealing with.

Little kids running all over the place and just feeling somewhat like I'm just burdening them for a sport that I didn't really, it wasn't like a passion of mine by any means. So I haven't played golf really significantly in, in a very long time and never really had any desire to. But all of a sudden, my son is doing this first tee program, which is just a great nonprofit.

And he really likes it. So we're going out there and it's just such a nice break for me to get outside and have something to learn to physically again like a skill of some sort to develop. And today is the first time in a very long time where I have actually had a coach, coach me.

Versus, I'm on the opposite side of that a lot. I coach a lot of people in a different con context. Baseball, or not baseball, I'm sorry, I don't coach baseball. I coach business cash-based practices and the ability to be on the opposite side of that and have coaching and have feedback and be able to make changes and see.

Positive changes in whatever I was trying to improve happen is just such a fun thing. I miss it. I miss being coached. I miss developing things physically, and I really am really glad that I decided to do this and. And to to put myself in that position to where I could learn something physically and just have something that I can do with with my son and my dad is really into it.

So it's a cool way for me to be able to spend some more time with them, with a hobby that I haven't really had hobbies in a very long time. This probably is the only one that I actually have besides like working out, which I don't think is a hobby. I think that's just a check the box to be healthy.

So my point with this is, Coaching is awesome. And what happens when I get a chance to do it and I do this now in business all the time, if I'm trying to learn something or join a group that focuses on something, I'll do that. And it's because I get to shortcut the line. I get to shortcut the line.

Now, I could go out there and I could go to the range and I could pull up YouTube and I could practice whatever videos somebody puts out. I could read a book about it. I could just go play more. I could just go play more, and I would improve just because I'm sh just the sheer amount of reps that I would have is just anything, is more than what I've been doing for the last 10 years.

But as I, I was out there for an hour and a half, two hours with this guy, and I don't know if I've ever hit a ball as consistently and as well. As far as accuracy is concerned, as I did today, and this guy cleaned up some shit that I had taught myself, over the last however many years in a very short period of time.

And he was a really good coach, and I just did what he told me to do. Now, how does this apply to you? I think if you're trying to learn any sort of physical skill, get a coach, like just, that's a no-brainer, right? It makes sense. You're not gonna try to teach yourself how to swim. And if you are, you probably figure it out, but you're not, probably not gonna be a great swimmer.

You're gonna be mediocre and being able to actually improve quickly. That happens by having somebody that's an expert in teaching people something that you're working with them and you pay for it. I have skin in the game with this guy. I'm paying this guy to be my coach. I'm listening to him.

I'm not gonna waste his time. I'm ready. I'm there to learn, I'm committed and he's committed. So it's a great relationship when that happens. Now I see this all the time on the business side where people do not, They don't think a coach is necessary. For the thing that probably is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

That not only that provides for your family, it's not like I'm trying to make the damn PGA tour and that's how I'm gonna buy food for my family. It's not what I'm doing with golf, but I have a coach, right? Yet people that go into business for themself and they just try to figure it all out.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that's silly. That's a i, it's a bad move because you can figure things out so much faster just by finding somebody that's already done what you're trying to do and works with people and is credible and hiring them. To then get you to do the same thing. It's the fastest way to success.

It's a concept of being able to compress time. This is for me, like the thing that I look at more than anything. How can I get where I'm trying to go and get where I'm trying to go the fastest with the. Least likelihood of failure. And the fastest way to do that is to find somebody that's already done what I'm trying to do, figured out what to do, can teach it effectively, and then I follow that process until I get what I want.

That's it. You gotta be willing to listen and be coached and follow process. But if you are, and if you're committed and you're when you pay attention. When you do those things, you get exponentially faster returns. It's not even close exponentially faster growth and positive progression. So the only reason that you wouldn't do it is because your ego isn't letting you do it.

That's it. That's it. That's what stopped me from doing it. That's what stopped me from getting business help for so long because I thought, I'll figure this out. Like I don't want anybody, I didn't want anybody to take away from me what I was trying to accomplish. I didn't want anybody to say, oh, Danny had a success, successful business cuz he worked with a mastermind group or a coach.

That is it. I, that's an, that's a dumb ass. I was an idiot when I said that to myself because a. I screwed up a lot of stuff that I wouldn't have had to screw up. I went through so much stress and anxiety and stressed my family out and stressed my relationships. The most important relationships to me in the world.

I put those in the worst place they've ever been because I was such a ignorant, egotistical idiot that I wouldn't admit that I didn't know something that was literally, that was providing for my family and didn't accept that I needed help from somebody that already knew what they were doing. Now I parlay with golf and I'm relating this to golf, but ultimately, I'm just giving you an example of something for me that I have really enjoyed today that has to do with hiring a coach that knows what they're doing to help me with something.

That it's just a hobby that I want to be able to do with my son and my dad, and I just am like Excited to receive coaching and to be able to be coachable and to make progress and have something to practice on and have a clear idea of what I need to improve versus going out there and just swinging like an idiot, trying to fix my own stuff and.

Maybe I could do that, but it would take a really long time. But ultimately, I probably wouldn't do a very good job of it. And if you feel like you're just swinging, trying to figure stuff out with your business, you probably are. And you probably don't know what you should do next, or what the next steps are, or maybe what you shouldn't do more importantly.

So keep that in mind as you're looking at what you are doing with your business or not in your business or what your next steps are. Cuz if you're trying to figure it out and you've been working on this for a while and you haven't, you probably need to get some help. And if you're just getting started, What a great time to actually get some help.

My son never really played golf before and he has this first tee program is helping him develop the fundamentals of a good swing and not a swing that some guy pieced together over decades with really minimal guidance that now has to be undone and rebuilt. And that's me. I'm speaking of, and in your case, this might be your business.

You might be doing all kinds of stuff and sticking stuff together and piecing it together in a way that just barely works. And then when you go to hire somebody or bring somebody on, it all falls apart because there's literally no foundation and it has to be rebuilt. And that's a really hard thing to do.

So if you're struggling with your business or you're just getting started, get a coach. It doesn't even have to be me. If what I say and what our business does resonates with you, cool. Go to physical therapy biz.com, check out what we got going on. But maybe there's somebody else out there that's a way better fit for you, that aligns with you better personally.

Their story makes more sense to you. They've accomplished more of what you're trying to do. Their life looks like. The life that you want to have. That's probably the biggest thing. Does that person's life look like what I want? If it doesn't, that's not who I wanna work with. If it does, that's definitely who I'm gonna bias towards more because they're essentially, they've already gotten there so they can show me exactly what to do and help me, shortcut that.

So same for you. So if you're trying to figure out on your own, I just think it's a terrible idea. I've done it myself. And maybe you have to learn the hard way. Like me, maybe you have to run into the wall a few times. Maybe you have to damn near, ruin the most relationship, most important relationships that you have, maybe you have to damn near bankrupt yourself financially.

If that's what you need, then that's what you need. And if you, if those things sound like things you wanna avoid, then I recommend getting a coach, get some help. And if we can help you, that'd be great. And if not, please find somebody else. Cause I think it's incredibly important. As always, guys, thanks so much for listening and I'll catch you next week.
